Fuck it, he thought.

Quake took the chance while both rock apes were distracted. He figured it would be easier going if they took out the smaller one first, then the larger one would be easier to focus on.

He aimed from a distance at the rock ape's skull and pulled the trigger on his previously loaded crossbow.

The bolt hit the rockape II dead on and knocked it off it's path. Now, it's full concentration was on Quake. It rushed over, but was a bit of a distance away, so it would take some time to get there.

Rockape I, however, sprung into action as soon as he saw the projectory of the bolt. It leapt into the air and brought down one of it's long arms right onto quake...!

Chrome was quick to notice the attack by Quake, immediately turning direction to his side of the opening. It seemed all the hiding was over with. These damn monkeys wanted to play hard. Taking a good opportunity, Chrome fired off a fireblast at the larger ape to cut off its attack course aimed at Quake.

Quake used Chrome's incoming fireball to help him evade the large Rock Ape's attack.

He then turned his attention to the the smaller rock ape charging headfirst toward him. He smirked. The rock ape was young and didn't pay much attention to its surroundings- Quake was sure that if he kept this trajectory to him, the rock ape would barrel straight through the patch of caltrops he had planted earlier.

He molded another bolt, quickly loaded his crossbow and took aim. He took a breath and waited a moment, waiting to fire just before the small rock ape would reach his previously placed trap. The caltrops digging into him would surely slow him down, if not stop him outright, and that was the opening he needed.

There!

Quake pulled the trigger once more, launching another bolt aimed at the rock ape's right leg.

The smaller rockape was unaffected by the caltrops since his feet were rock-solid. It continued forward and saw the bolt come right for him. With a quick swing, it swatted the bolt away.

With a short leap, the smaller Rock-ape jumped forward, aiming a strike right at Quake's mid-section.

The large rock-ape had to pull back from the firebolt, making sure he wasn't hit by it. It saw it's younger kin go on the full offensive for Quake. Suddenly, the large ape dug it's hand into the ground and made a large ball of dirt. With a quick compact, it make it hard as rock.

Technique Revealed...!
Rock Throw[Advanced]

It did not throw it immediately, however. It took aim at Quake, and waited to see what the reaction of the crossbowman would be.

Chrome saw she missed, but didn't give up. She launched another Fire Bolt as she closed in on her comrades. This wasn't looking good at the moment.

Quake took note of the Rock Ape's tough skin. This was a creature he hadn't seen before so he'd have to pay close attention. He glanced at the larger Rock Ape, who was prepared with a large projectile. He looked back at the smaller Rock Ape continuing his assault straight for him.

As the smaller rock ape closed in for the attack, Quake fell backward, laying on his back. He brought his knees up and stopped the leaping ape, digging his soles into its abdomen.

Block!

Quake grimaced as his knees buckled, currently supporting the beast. It was heavier than he expected, and the sheer weight of it coupled with the force of the impact took a toll on his legs and back.

With a war cry, he mustered his strength and launched the rock ape away with his legs. Quake angled his body toward the large rock ape, sending the smaller one in its direction.

The large rock ape, much smarter than the younger, weaker ape, saw both of the "projectiles" coming at him. Suddenly, He crouched and leapt high into the air. As he reached the peak of his jump, he launch the rock throw forward toward Quake...!

The smaller ape was struck by Chrome's attack just by Quake's throw..!

The small rock-ape was not used to battle. It panicked and flee'd, leaving the larger one by itself.

Chrome was relieved her attack hit the smaller ape and made it flee. For how long, she didn't know. It could possibly be coming back. "Let's get this over with before the smaller one might come back." She called over to Quake as she fired off another basic fire bolt. It was the best she had at the moment.

Quake used his earth manipulation to slow down the large incoming projectile, giving him enough time to roll away.

Dodge!

He was relieved to see the smaller one flee, and hoped it was gone for good. Gods help them if it came back with more of the blasted monkeys.

"Got it!" Quake affirmed. "No holding back, then!" he shouted, shooting a smile to Chrome.

Quake swung his crossbow over his back. With the beast's rock hide, even his bolts would barely pierce it. He'd have to damage it through sheer force He approached the stone projectile the rock ape had previously thrown at him grabbing it at either end. Quake widened his stance, stood firm and pulled it out from the small crater from the impact, holding it over his head.

He used his ability to craft it into an even larger, denser boulder. With a howl, he launched it like a rocket toward the rock ape, using both his strength and manipulation for the most speed and power.

The rockape shielded himself from the firebolt.

Blocked full damage!

It didn't, however, see the giant rock boulder. It slammed into the rock ape full force, causing considerable damage.

Due to it's hard skin, Rock ape takes less damage.

It roared in fury. It charged toward Quake with a ferocious intent. It reached out, trying to grab Quake....!

Now within partner range, Chrome could finally assist more than just shooting firebolts from far away. She interrupted the rockape's grab by jumping in front of Quake and activating her Wind Shield. The winds would push the rockape's arm off angle. With this opening, she hoped Quake could get another good strike in.

Quake used the opening and rushed in for an attack. He scooped up a handful of rocks as bolted up to the rock ape. He molded the earth around his hand into hardened fist of stone, and launched a swift upper to the enemy's gut.

The large ape staggered back a bit, but was still able to see Quake's attack incoming. It raised it's hands to block, but still took a chunk of damage.

With the two so close, the ape saw an opportune moment to use the rock apes secret ability. It opened it's mouth wide and released a shockwave of a screech. One so powerful, it would leaf the enemy stunned if it hit.

Ability Revealed!
Shrieking Howl - The user releases a shockwave of sound, stunning enemies in front of him.

Chrome dodged rolled to her own side away from Quake, thinking it was another type of attack. Not knowing about the incoming screech, Chrome's sensitive ears picked up on the attack, effectively stunning her in pain.

Quake jumped backwards, not knowing what the rock ape intended to do. What he didn't expect was a sound-based attack. He tried to cover his ears but it was too late, and he stood there in shock. He glanced at Chrome, who was luckily farther away.

Quake hoped the rock ape would go for him and not Chrome while they were open.

The giant ape rocketed toward Quake. It reared it's fist back, revealing another trait of itself...!

Heavy Hitter! - At the cost of taking the next hit for sure, you'll be allowed to give an extra boost of damage to an attack. +5D.


It brought it's first forward with a furious strength and tenacity, aiming straight for Quake's midsection.

Chrome regained herself, and she called back onto her powers of fire. She charged up a ball of fire and aimed it directly at the rockape beast. She fired it off, making sure it was to hit.

Quake, unable to move from his spot, tried his best brace himself for the incoming mass of monkey fist heading straight for him... WHAM!

37 HP - 12 DAM = 25 HP

He took the massive blow directly and was sent barreling backward, stopping only when he hit a nearby tree. Quake needed a moment to come to his senses- it's not every day you get sucker punched by a raging stone ape. His ears were ringing, he was winded, and a few ribs were easily broken. Hopefully there was no internal damage.

The desert hunter regained his focus, using the tree at his back to help him to his feet. He groaned in pain and coughed up some blood on his way up. He had no more time to rest, however. Now was the time to get back to action. Quake would be wary of the opponent's paralyzing howl from this point forward.

He loaded and aimed his crossbow, still supporting himself against the tree. His bolts wouldn't do much but it was the best he could do at the moment. Pulling the trigger, a heavy stone bolt zipped through the air toward the beast's eyes.

The rockape was slow to move after giving it all he had in that punch. He couldn't block or dodge either of the projectiles coming toward him...

39-10 = 29HP

It roared and ran toward Chrome this time. It leapt into the air with a small hop and brought and open palm down onto chrome...!

Chrome got wide-eyes, not expecting the beast to charge her this time. It made sense though, since she was closest and it just got a nice hit on Quake. She quickly got herself together and prepared for the impact, summoning a shield made of the winds around her.

Taking what she could, she fired a firebolt pointblank to get as much as she could out of this battle. It was all or nothing.

Quake closed in on the rock ape and Chrome so he could jump in quickly if she needed assistance, but he kept his distance from the beast to keep pelting it with bolts. They were both getting tired now, and he would simply keep wearing it down with his crossbow until it left another opening.

He aimed for the gaps between the beast's more heavily armored parts and continued firing away.

Both of the projectiles hit the ape, one in the front, the other in the back.

29-10=19 HP

The beast was gravely injured at this point and went into a wild frenzy. Scooping down into the earth, it created a ball of rock. It reared back and threw it at Chrome.

Chrome knew she couldn't dodge, so she focused all she had to put up another wind shield. Unfortunately, this time, the attack got the better of her and she couldn't react fast to throw another attack instantly.

Quake sprung to action! He dropped his heavy crossbow and rushed in toward Chrome, at the same time holding his palm out toward the earthen projectile to slow it down and buy time.

Judging by how the wind shield worked out last time, he knew it wouldn't be enough. He leapt forward into Chrome, grabbed her, and they both tumbled out of the way of the projectile!

...Dodge Assist!?

Quake got back on his feet, put down Chrome and quickly turned to face the rock ape again. The hunter smashed his fist into the ground, causing a pillar of earth to spring up from under the rock ape's foot to hopefully throw it off balance.
